Halving schedule

The reward halves at every halving. Each bar is the daily base reward, drawn to scale.

How halving works

What is a halving?

A halving cuts the rate at which new CKB is issued to miners. The block reward drops by half on a fixed schedule.

Why does it matter?

It makes issuance predictable. New supply follows a decaying curve instead of an open-ended one, which is one of the main differences from fiat money.

How does it work?

Base issuance rewards miners and halves about every 4 years, until all 33.6 billion base-issuance CKB is mined. Time is counted in epochs of about 4 hours, so every halving lands on a fixed epoch number.

Nth halving = epoch 8,760 × N

Inflation rate

Before the first halving7.92%
After the first halving3.77%

It keeps falling toward 0% with every halving.

A block reward has four parts

  • Base issuance
  • Secondary issuance
  • Commit reward
  • Proposal reward

The schedule above covers the base issuance only.
